Leaside Under 15 Girls Select Soccer Team
Do you love soccer? Are you looking for a more competitive and challenging level of play?
Have you played on a rep team or at the recreational all-star level in previous seasons? If
so, you're invited to try out for the under 15 girls Leaside Select team. The try outs are
open to girls born in 1997 and 1998. This team was formed two years ago to give players in
this age group a chance to play at a higher level of competitive play without the travel
commitment that comes with a rep team. This year the team will play between 5 and 7
competitive level weekend tournaments in Ontario from April to October. In addition,
several exhibition matches against rep level teams are planned. And there will be one
or two practices/training sessions per week throughout the season.
The team's main coaching staff consists of Karen Blair and Richard Cobbing, who have
coached the team since its inception. Their coaching philosophy is to develop players'
life love of sport, and in particular soccer, with an emphasis on training, individual
skill development and strategic team development. Their combined expertise and winning
coaching style inspires girls to committed play and personal bests.
In 2011 the team, then a combination of under 14 and under 13 girls, achieved a record
of 29 wins against only 1 loss. The team won the under 16 girls division in the Leaside
house league; won the under 16 girls Leaside tournament; were champions at the Albert
Campbell under 14 girls all-star tournament and were runners-up at the under 14 girls
Walter Kirchner All-Star tournament in Woodstock. In 2010, the team won both of the
OSA-sanctioned tournaments which it entered... in Whitby and Woodstock.
Try outs will be incorporated into our initial 2012 practice sessions and will be held
at the Ultra Sports Centre, 1510 Birchmount Road, Unit 150, Scarborough (Birchmount and Ellesmere).
Try-outs are 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm: Sundays Feb 5, Feb 12, Feb 19, Feb 26.
FEES: A fee of $20 per session will be requested to cover the cost of renting the indoor
training facility. If you make the team, additional fees of $20 per indoor training session
will be required. Fees for personalized uniforms and tournament entry fees during the season
should be approximately $250 per player while travel and accomodation expenses for out-of-town
tournaments will be the responsibility of each player.
Additional indoor practices for the team will also be held the Ultra Sports Centre.
Additional Practices are 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm: Sundays Mar 4, Mar 11, Mar 18, Mar 25, Apr 1, Apr 8 .
OUTDOOR PRACTICES: We expect to be able to commence outdoor practices in mid-April.
